A couple exceptions to height would be: The Buffalo Horse 36", The Sergeant 10 1/4", Paleolithic Man 15 1/2", and The Savage 11". Size: Size matters! Original Remington bronzes were cast in one general size, around 18-26". However, it should be noted that there are reproductions that have both the name of a foundry and Frederic Remington inscribed on the sculpture therefore this cannot be used as the sole determining factor of an original.ģ. Authentic sculptures are made with the foundry's name clearly cast into the bronze base. Most copies bear no indication of where they were made. If there is no base you can look on the underside of the sculpture to see if there are flanges present that would have once secured the sculpture to the base this is a sign of a reproduction.Ģ. Original bronzes were never mounted on bases. If your sculpture is secured to a base it is most likely a reproduction. Reproductions are typically mounted on marble or wooden bases. Here are a few things to look for to reassure yourself that a particular sculpture is not an original Remington bronze:ġ. This is why there are a limited number of originals. At some point this plaster mold would lose its definition and the artist would break the mold so that no more bronzes could be created from it. When we say "original" sculpture we mean a bronze which was cast using the plaster mold made from the clay sculpture that Remington created. There are endless numbers of reproductions out there, some even claiming to be one of the original castings created by Frederic Remington and Roman Bronze Works or Henry-Bonnard Bronze Co. It is extremely unlikely that any of these calls result in it being an original. We get several calls a week from people wondering if the sculpture they have is an original.
